Why Project management?

Employment of project management specialists is projected to grow 6 percent from 2024 to 2034, faster than the average for all occupations.

About 78,200 openings for project management specialists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The median annual wage for project management specialists was $100,750 in May 2024.

Only 18% of project professionals demonstrate high business acumen, while 66% are rated as moderate and 16% as low.

Professionals with high business acumen achieve: 83% of projects meeting business objectives, 73% of projects completed on budget, 63% of projects completed on schedule and only a 8% project failure rate

In contrast, those with low business acumen see: 64% of projects meeting business objectives, 49% completed on budget, 46% completed on schedule, and a 19% project failure rate

81% of executives say project professionals who understand business strategy are more valuable to their organizations.
